Whoopsie

Its not that I completely forgot about this blog, but I did keep ignoring my impulses to share the greatest foods I've tasted on here. I promise to update this at least a couple more times before I forget about it.

I did not get a chance to update this blog with all the delicious food that I tasted that summer. It makes me quite sad. However, when I did do this trip, Twitter had not yet been invented. All my ideas about being able to update frequently and with awesome little snippets about food, are now finally achievable. You can now keep up to date with all the food that I feel like Twittering about in the Twitter box to the right. Also, it may also fill up with random thoughts on my UAV. Twitter only supports one phone per account :(

Anyways, a quick listing of some foods that I've sampled since I last posted

  • Five Guys - This East Coast chain is quite possibly the most delicious hamburger place I have ever been too. For instance, I no longer miss Red Robin, its that good.
  • Lobster - Lobster is delicious. Lobster ravioli, lobster pasta, lobster rolls (the buttered kind, not that lame mayo one), lobster pizza. I am thoroughly convinced that it is lobster, not bacon, that makes everything better
  • Cheap hotdog lunches - Super Duper Weenies, Danny's Drive-In, Rawleys. You can't beat these cheap eats.
  • Diners - Not much in the way of Fast food out here, but there's always cheap diners. Like a small IHOP or Denny's but without that bad chain aftertaste.
  • Dutchess - My only exception to my fast food ban. A CT-only establishment thats actually not bad.

Anyways, I should try to update more. Maybe. We'll see. Check the Twitter.

Sucess!

I've found it. I've found the cheap delicious Connecticut specialty I was looking for. I was looking for all the wrong things. I looked for seafood and ethnic foods and all sorts of exotic things that I might possibly find for cheap. But the real food of Connecticut: HOTDOGS!

Really, you just can't go wrong with a hotdog stand named "Super Duper Weenie" that used to operate out of the back of a truck. It was amazing. I didn't get any pictures of it, but I'll get some soon. $6 for a New Englander Hot dog and fries. Totally worth it.

There's also some other hotdog places I've got to try too. Apparantly, the other main style of hotdog here in Connecticut is deepfried, which as you all know, is my favorite way of cooking.

The Roadtrip video is finally up

So, I've been slacking off ever since I've made it to Bridgeport, but I've finally finished the time-lapse video of the drive. I didn't set it to music, but if really want, you can turn on your itunes and pretend like I did. I posted it in two parts on youtube.

Also, all my pictures are up both on facebook and on webshots.

The total tallies are as follows
4583 miles
14 states
2 countries
73 hours of driving
128.584 gallons of gas
35.64 average MPG
62.7 MPH average speed
4,587 pictures (3.08 GB)
0 car breakdowns
0 medical emergencies
5 wrong turns
7 near accidents

All in all, one good road trip. But now I have to go back to doing that "school" thing. Which is not quite as much fun as road tripping.

Eventually, I'll post up the individual adventures and eating locations. It'll take some time though. I'm awfully lazy.

Part 0.15: Jimbo's Tacos

Ok, I'm going to cheat a bit here, but I had to review this place. I've actually have never been, but my mom brings back food from here all the time. Ignore that I can't judge the price, location or atmosphere, but really it doesn't matter anyways, cause these are quite possibly the worst tacos I have ever tasted. In fact, this place makes me consider redesigning my rating system because it doesn't properly weigh the taste of the food. In fact, I think from now on, taste will be out of 15 points instead of just five.

Anyways, now to warn you to never go to Jimbo's Tacos. The tacos are always soggy and greasy. Why are tacos greasy? Its supposed to be meat, cheese, lettuce and salsa. Where is there grease in that? Its almost as if they're deepfried, but without the delicious deepfried taste. The taco shells are an abomination. Its a fried corn tortilla, but covered in salt and parmesean cheese. And way too much of it I might add. Its like taking a bite out of a soggy salt block. The only redeeming quality is that if you cover it with enough hot sauce, you can drown out the rancid taste of the meat. Though you're still left with an even soggier salty taco shell.
All in all, don't go here.

Ratings:
Location: ?/5 - Its in everywhere but Tracy, which for once, I applaud Tracy's good sense.
Price: ?/5 - Irrelevant.
Taste: 2/15 - I'll give it some points for the hot sauce, but that's about it.
Atmosphere: ?/5 - Supposidly it has some history behind it.
Total: 2/30 - Here's to my first bad review. Hopefully it'll also be my last.
